Singapore diaries: two slow days in the city

The Art of Slow Living: A Singapore Introvert Diary

There is a specific kind of quiet you can find in a bustling city, if you only know where to look. While Singapore might seem vibrant, dense, and relentlessly fast-paced, for those of us who find peace in stillness, it is the perfect place to intentionally slow down and dictate our own gentle rhythm.

I recently shared a new video, vlog | singapore diaries: slow day at the best cafe, dinner party at Shangri-La Sentosa, capturing the essence of these quiet moments from our time in the city last month. Whether it is the rich scent of espresso in a sunlit corner or the balmy ocean breeze at dusk, there is something deeply restorative about experiencing a new place without the rush.

Finding Stillness in the City

Traveling as an introvert doesn't mean you have to fill every hour with a strict itinerary. Sometimes, slipping into a soft, minimal outfit and taking a slow morning walk is all you need to ground yourself. We found our way to Apartment Coffee—often called the best cafe in Asia—and it served as a beautiful, calming sanctuary. Sitting there, watching the city wake up from a safe distance, felt like a quiet adventure in itself.

Creating a Minimal Sanctuary

When navigating a busy metropolis, your physical environment deeply influences your mental space. Here are a few ways we embraced a cozy, introverted pace during our two days:

  • Minimalist Spaces: We moved to our new accommodation at the Nanyang University Executive Centre. The room's clean lines and uncluttered surfaces provided a literal blank canvas for a quiet mind.

  • A Slow Routine: Instead of rushing back out, I spent the afternoons fully embracing slow living—practicing intentional self-care, brewing coffee, and carving out uninterrupted hours just to read while the afternoon heat rose outside.

  • Gentle Evenings: We beautifully contrasted a quiet, simple dinner on campus one night with an elegant dinner party on the beach the next. Hosted by K's colleagues at the Shangri-La Rasa Sentosa, we shared traditional chilli crab by the water as the sky slowly bruised into dusk.

Traveling isn't about seeing everything; it's about being present with yourself wherever you are. If you're looking for a little bit of aesthetic, slow-living inspiration for your next trip, you can check out the full vlog here:

How do you find quiet moments when you travel? Whether you're a fellow introvert or just someone who needs a break from the noise of a busy itinerary, I’d love to hear your favorite ways to unwind in a new city.
