cozy london movie night 🎬 Wicked For Good with YouTube

Last night, the usual London noise faded away as YouTube hosted a special, exclusive gathering for the Wicked for Good campaign screening at Vue Piccadilly. For a content creator, these events offer a lovely chance to connect and gather inspiration.

The evening started with a familiar, welcome coziness. I grabbed some buttery popcorn, and a creamy cappuccino, met up with fellow creators, and settled into my seat where a thoughtful gift was waiting for me.

The Review: A Deeper Dive into Oz and the Cast

The lights dimmed for the screening of Wicked: For Good, the second part of the musical adaptation. This instalment focuses on the emotional and political fallout of Elphaba and Glinda's relationship.

The production design is undoubtedly stunning. The Art Nouveau-inspired sets and the scale of the world of Oz are visually rich. Cynthia Erivo, as Elphaba, delivers a raw and powerful vocal performance, providing the story with its necessary emotional weight. Ariana Grande, as Glinda, effectively captures the character's conflicted nature.

A Standout Performance: Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard

What truly captivated me, though, was Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard.

His portrayal brought a compelling layer of nuance to the character. Goldblum manages to be both charmingly showy and subtly melancholic, perfectly capturing the Wizard's inherent sense of being an outsider attempting to fit into a world he doesn't fully understand. His performance wasn't just entertaining; it was grounded. He gives the Wizard a believable complexity, making his scenes stand out as some of the most engaging in the film (at least for me).

My Takeaway: The second half of the film delivers on the spectacular visuals and emotional depth. While it tackles heavier themes than the first, the overall effect is an enjoyable cinematic experience. It is worth seeing just for the artistry, and Jeff Goldblum's memorable performance is definitely a highlight.

Leaving the cinema, the festive atmosphere of London took over. Heading home, I was treated to a spectacular, unplanned moment: the first twinkling glimpses of the beautiful London Christmas Lights sparkling over Piccadilly. It was the perfect, cozy finish to the evening—a touch of authentic Christmas aesthetic to remember the night by.

If you’re in the city, an evening walk to see the lights is a simple, must-do experience this season.
